Highlights

The **Außerfern** (Reutte district) is the only part of Tirol north of the main Alpine ridge and is nestled between the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps. The region is defined by the deep **Lechschlucht**, the clear **Plansee**, and bizarre rock formations. The main town, **Reutte**, is famous for Schloss Ehrenberg with Austria’s longest suspension bridge, the **Highline179**. **Ehrwald** lies right on the German border and serves as the starting point for hikes to the **Zugspitze**, Germany’s highest mountain. **Lermoos** and **Berwang** are popular year-round destinations, offering stunning views of the **Zugspitze**.
